Thru the Lens...

Critical Mass Theatre presents stage two of their exploration into an urban landscape - Wollongong's past, present and future.
'Thru The Lens...'opened on October 29 by the Lord Mayor Alex Darling in Wollongong Town Hall as part of The Viva La Gong Arts Festival2003 .
A partnership was forged with Wollongong Futures, a strategic initiative of the planning Department of the Wollongong Council, recognising that at times, art and politics can serve the same purposes.
In this case, our aim was to involve the Wollongong community in decision making about the identity of its city.

The narratives in this installation were developed from 'Surface Tension 2002' a theatrical creative development funded by the Ministry of Arts, NSW.
Three politically contested sites are represented on the television screens with their accompanying stories.These sites are The Mall, Sandon Point and the industrial landscape of Port Kembla.
The stories have been gathered, read and performed with thanks to Bruce Keller, Jeff Stein, Katia Molino, Regina Heilmann, James Beach, Ariana Grabrovaz, Kate Clarkson, John Finlayson, Dominica Grossy, Merlinda Bobis & The South Coast Writers' Centre.
Corruption, the Sandon Point film fantasy was screened at the adjacent end of the Town Hall as the motif of the installation, the body lost in the landscape
