A Multimedia Installation

2003, Thru the Lens...Wollongong Town Hall. Viva la Gong Arts Festival

Wollongong Futures Banners
9 banners at 2 meters in height and 1 meter in width

The Futures Banners hung on one wall of the multimedia installation "Thru The Lens..." With audio by Kevin White and video created by Sarah Moss it was produced in conjunction with Critical Mass Theatre. The Futures Banners were commissioned by Wollongong City Council through the Wollonong Futures Project who sponsored the installation. The banners were to remind the audience that Wollongong Futures was alive and listening. The design motif was for each banner to include an aspect of Wollongong and Councils relationship to it. Bubble wrap was used to create texture and intergrated into the exhibition room as the giant screen at the end of the room, were indeed wrapped in the stuff. "Thru The Lens..." reveals that Wollongong (in 2003) has a remarkable amount of wire fences in place. Hence a MESH projection screen. This too became a design feature for the banners. The banner images are sourced from the "Thru The Lens..." film, running looped every 35minutes, at the other end of the hall. "Thru The Lens..." developed as a direct result of having participated in the creative development phase of Surface Tension 2002 with Critical Mass Theatre
The Futures Banners film clips
In late 2002, Janys Hayes (Artistic Director of Critical Mass Theatre) had negotiated with Wollongong Futures Chia Moan, to include 16 images of the 35 images chosen to be projected onto the Wollongong Council Chambers building, as part of a Viva La Gong Arts Festival event. Banner images were sourced from this portfolio and my short film, Confection.
